Kensalt

Kensalt is one of the largest Salt manufacturing units in East Africa. It is based at Mombasa, Kenya. This unit has one large  salt field near Malindi around 132 km from Mombasa measuring approximately 2000 hectares of leased land from the Govt, of Kenya. The Salt Refinery is located at Mombasa.

Solar Salt
We produce approximately 150,000 MT per annum of raw salt at present and we are shortly expanding it to 200,000 MT per annum. The raw salt is produced from sea water of specific gravity of 1.03 by solar evaporation. The raw salt is harvested, washed in a mechanical wash plant and then transported by lorries to Mombasa for further refining.

Salt Refining Plant
The refining plant at Mombasa is capable of producing 120,000 MT per annum of Refined Table Salt. We are expanding the refining capacity of this plant to 150,000 MT per annum by 2008. The raw salt is physically washed by elutriation and clarification with brine first. It is then centrifuged and dried in a Fluid bed Dryer after Iodisation. Finally it is sieved and packed in FFS( Form Fill and Seal) Machines in packets for sale.
